Jamie McLain did not come from a horse family but has always had the horse bug. When her parents realized that it was not "just a phase" they gave in and signed her up for summer camp. The rest, as they say, was history!
What started as a weekly summer camp here and there quickly turned into living at the barn. Jamie began to work for lessons and would ride anything offered to her. At the age of 15 she began teaching beginner riding lessons at the barn she grew up at and worked her way up the ranks.
During college, she tried to put horses on hold but that simply was not possible and her current competition horse quickly found his way to Stillwater, OK. Jamie received her Bachelors of Science degree in Animal Science, Equine Reproduction from Oklahoma State University in 2012 and put that to work in her every day life from breeding farm manager to veterinary technician.
The focus of her riding career has been on re-training off-the-track Thoroughbreds and bringing along young horses. Due to this, the majority of show miles are at the lower levels but with promising results. Jamie lives for the "light bulb moments" when things finally click for the horse. That is the most rewarding part. When training youngsters and giving Thoroughbreds a second career, you don't always get to pick the desired discipline as the horse tends to tell you what they enjoy and their talents come out with training. Due to this, Jamie is a bit of a Jack of All Trades with experience in dressage, eventing, cutting, reining, ranch riding, jumpers, polo, hunters, barrels, and combined driving.
It has always been a dream to open her own boarding, training, and lesson facility and that dream is becoming a reality with Up A Creek Farm. This just proves that with hard work and determination, anything is possible. Come grow with us!
